JPMAM brings multi-manager PE strategy to Australian wealth market
JP Morgan Asset Management (JPMAM) has launched a new private equity vehicle for Australian wealth clients, extending access to a strategy previously focused on institutional investors, according to a report by the Financial Standard.
The JPMorgan Private Markets Fund (JPMF) is a diversified, multi-manager private equity strategy targeting small and mid-market companies, with a substantial portion of the portfolio expected to be allocated to secondary transactions and co-investments.
The fund will be structured as a retail registered Australian unit trust and managed by JPMAM’s Private Equity Group, which has relationships with around 260 active general partners globally.
The launch reflects growing efforts by major asset managers to broaden access to private markets among high-net-worth investors, as demand for alternatives increases amid market volatility and geopolitical uncertainty.
JPMAM Australia and New Zealand chief executive Andrew Creber said private equity could provide investors with exposure to a broader universe of companies than is available through public markets, while offering diversification and the potential for higher long-term returns.
JPMAM said its multi-manager structure is particularly suited to private equity, where information gaps can be significant and specialist managers can provide differentiated sector expertise, networks and access to investment opportunities.
The launch is also intended to establish a platform for JPMAM’s planned expansion into evergreen private market strategies.
