CataCap acquires majority stake in Danish data protection firm B4Restore

  • Founders Henrik and Vivi Lind, CEO and executive vice president, retain a significant stake alongside CataCap
  • The company’s internally built B4R Storage Portal automates governance, documentation and reporting for enterprise customers
  • The deal is CataCap Fund III’s fifth investment, aimed at rising cyber threats and regulations such as NIS2 and DORA

CataCap has acquired a majority stake in B4Restore, a Danish provider of data protection services delivering backup, storage and business continuity capabilities. B4Restore’s existing leadership team remains in place and will work with CataCap to accelerate the company’s growth.

Founded in 2003, B4Restore delivers its services via subscription and consumption-based models from Danish data centers, serving hybrid and complex IT environments where security, compliance, governance and documented restoration capacity are critical. The company works with both enterprise customers and managed service providers, which use its platform as a foundation for their own offerings.

The investment comes as organizations face growing pressure to prove they can recover data and resume operations after an incident rather than simply back it up, driven by rising cyber threats, expanding data volumes and regulations such as NIS2 and DORA.

This is the fifth investment for CataCap’s Fund III. CataCap is a Danish private equity firm investing in mid-sized companies with strong growth potential, combining private equity capital with operational support, according to the company.

“B4Restore has been on an impressive growth journey in recent years, underpinned by a clear strategy focused on the MSP segment and a market with a growing and business-critical demand,” said Rasmus Lokvig, partner at CataCap, in a statement. “Today, data protection is not only about securing data, but increasingly about being able to document that critical systems and business processes can be restored when something goes wrong. B4Restore has built the technology, the capabilities and the strong customer relationships around exactly this challenge for over 20 years. We see significant potential to develop the company further from this strong starting point together with management.”
