This Woven ‘Banana Bark’ Basket Is the Most Stylish Bedroom Accessory |
Do you know when you just see something and instantly fall in love? That’s what the Marilo Banana Bark chest from La Redoute did for me when I was scrolling the brand’s interiors section this week.
Every home decor brand offers their own take on a wicker basket, from handmade designer ones to cheaper alternatives on the high street. They are a staple for pretty much any contemporary home. But the standard wicker basket doesn’t cut it when you’ve got something like this on offer.
It’s made from ‘banana bark’, the woven fibers of the banana tree, which isn’t something you come across every day on your hunt for a wicker basket, but has a really pleasing texture. But, let’s get the issues out of the way before you fall in love. 1. It’s not cheap — when I first saw it, it was priced at £289; however, right now, it’s on sale for £187.85. 2. It has one bad review, referring to a ‘musty’ smell when you open it. However, as another review explains: “There was a slight odor upon unpacking which didn’t last; it’s a natural material, so a faint grassy smell is to be expected.”

La Redoute
Marilo Banana Bark Chest
This basket from La Redoute is made out of untreated handwoven banana bark. The material itself feels luxurious, in a rustic kind of way. But, it’s the tiered curved design that takes this basket to the next level and cements it as a home storage trend for 2026.
Unlike a lot of storage baskets, this one is rigid and has a solid structure, so it is much more practical in terms of everyday use. The fact that it has a lid also means that anything you choose to store inside it can easily be hidden away and not on show.
If you’re a big fan of this gorgeous basket but wanted to know if there were any other designs available. You’re in luck… It also comes as an option without the lid, and if you’re more of a circular fan — it’s available in a fully round version.
Alternative to Try
If this design doesn’t float your boat, then why not try one of these other, stylish, woven laundry baskets and hampers instead?
Abigail Ahern
Kettering Hyacinth Woven Basket
Looking for living room storage ideas? This wicker basket from Abigail Ahern feels effortlessly chic. It’s proof that products don’t need a complete do over to offer a more sophisticated alternative. The shape of this basket is unique and not like the usual designs you see on the high street, making it that little bit more special.
H&M
Low Rattan Storage Basket
What makes a storage basket feel more expensive? It can be as subtle as the color of the material that it is made from. There’s no doubt rattan is back, and this low rattan storage basket from H&M is super light and ashy in tone, which has a more designer-inspired feel to it.
OKA creates some of my favorite storage solutions and this Fairfax basket is a great example. It’s made from a dark stained rattan that would suit a space which isn’t scared of incorporating darker, moodier tones. The stand out feature of this basket is the leather handles, not only are they super practical but they look gorgeous, too.
Ferm Living
Braided Basket
The bulbous shape of this braided basket is super on trend. The fact that it’s flat, low and round ticks all of the style boxes and it’s price tag is quite reasonable, too. It’s understated elegance would make for a stylish laundry basket to be kept on display in the bathroom.
Shopping for storage doesn’t have to be boring. It just takes a bit of time to hunt down a style that is unique and that you love. Pick a basket that has a fun and playful twist to elevate whichever room you choose to display it in.
