Great Point-backed VetnCare acquires Geary Veterinary Hospital
- The deal expands the buyer’s presence in the East Bay region of Northern California
- The acquisition marks the buyer’s seventh deal since partnering with its private equity backer
- Geary’s founding doctors will remain in place to lead the practice
Great Point Partners-backed VetnCare has acquired Geary Veterinary Hospital, a veterinary practice in Walnut Creek, California, expanding VetnCare’s presence in the East Bay, for undisclosed terms.
Geary, founded in 1979, is led by Dr. Gillian Hamilton and Dr. Erica Weiss and provides wellness and preventive care, diagnostics and imaging, surgery, dental care and senior pet care.
The deal marks VetnCare’s seventh acquisition since partnering with Great Point Partners, a Greenwich, Connecticut-based private investment firm focused exclusively on healthcare. VetnCare operates a community of veterinary hospitals across Northern California offering wellness and advanced services including surgery, imaging, urgent care and specialties such as oncology, ophthalmology, dermatology, orthopedic surgery and exotics.
“Geary is exactly the type of locally established, clinician-led practice that makes VetnCare’s community stronger and will seamlessly integrate into the broader ecosystem,” said Eddie Hjerpe, principal at Great Point Partners. “This acquisition highlights the Company’s ongoing momentum, and we look forward to supporting Matt and the broader team as they continue to thoughtfully expand VetnCare’s presence across Northern California.”
Great Point Partners, founded in 2003, manages approximately $1.7 billion in capital across its private funds and public life sciences equity strategy, and has provided growth equity, growth recapitalization and management buyout financing to more than 100 healthcare companies.
