Ford Recalls 148K Mustangs: See Impacted Vehicles
More than 148,000 vehicles are being recalled because a wiring defect could cause a loss of drive power or disable critical functions, increasing crash risk.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says the issue involves wiring-harness ground connections in certain Mustang vehicles. The connection may fracture, causing a loss of drive power or disabling the windshield-washing system, headlights, air-conditioning system or engine-cooling fan.
Which Vehicles Are Affected?
Recall 26C40 covers 148,663 vehicles:
Drivers may notice an illuminated check-engine light, instrument-cluster warning messages or an audible chime.
What Should Owners Do?
Owners should take affected vehicles to a Ford dealership, where technicians will replace the engine-compartment wiring-harness ground terminals at no charge. Notification letters were mailed Aug. 31. Ford customer service can be reached at 1-866-436-7332.
A Second Ford Recall
Ford also recalled 10,001 vehicles because an engine piston dome may have been manufactured incorrectly. The defect could lead to a loss of drive power, raising the risk of a crash.
