- SEC Requests Comment on FINRA’s Proposed Updates to Arbitrator Rules
FINRA’s proposed amendments to our Codes of Arbitration Procedure are now published for comment in the Federal Register. The amendments are designed to provide parties with greater input into replacing arbitrators. Comments are due to the SEC by Sept. 18.
- TRACE Rule Amendments Aim to Improve Trade Reporting Transparency
FINRA published Regulatory Notice 26-16 on Aug. 26 to support implementation of recent amendments to its TRACE rules. The amendments, adopted in July, expand the scope of the principal transaction indicator to include transactions with member affiliates. This change will reduce the dissemination of trade reports for transactions that are not economically distinct from a separately disseminated transaction with another counterparty, improving the transparency of TRACE data. The amendments will take effect Aug. 2, 2027, though members have had the option to comply on a voluntary basis since Aug. 31.
- Report on Top Q2 Cyber Vulnerabilities Now Available
The Q2 CORE Report—highlighting the top five cyber-related vulnerabilities affecting member firms and their vendors during the last quarter—was released last week. The report is not available publicly; it was distributed directly to CCOs, CISOs, and other member firm contacts, and posted to the Financial Intelligence Fusion Center (FIFC). Not yet an FIFC participant? Visit fifc.finra.org to learn how the FIFC delivers timely, actionable intelligence to the firm personnel who need it most, and join the more than 1,000 members that have enrolled since the platform launched in March.
- Timeline Now Available for 2027 Renewal Program
FINRA posted the timeline for member firms to renew their registrations on the Renewal Program page and in the Compliance Calendar. Preliminary statements will be posted to E-Bill on Nov. 9, while renewal reports will be available through CRD/IARD for reconciliation purposes. See the Firm Renewal Report Guide for more information.
- FinPro Gateway API Now Live
Member firms are now able to automatically retrieve all FinPro tasks and alerts for their registered representatives using the new FinPro Tasks List Dataset. We estimate that this newly integrated API will save compliance personnel approximately 35,000 hours annually, and financial professionals 26,000 hours per year. More information is available at the FINRA Developer Center.
- New Podcast Episode: Intraday Margin Standard
In the latest episode of FINRA Unscripted, we discuss why FINRA replaced the decades-old Pattern Day Trader rule—including the $25,000 minimum equity requirement—with a modern, risk-based intraday margin standard, and what the change means for investors and member firms.
