Mariska Hargitay Wins 2 Emmys For ‘My Mom Jayne’ At Creative Arts Ceremony

Actress and filmmaker Mariska Hargitay won two Primetime Emmys Saturday night at the 2026 Creative Arts Ceremony in Los Angeles for the HBO Max Documentary My Mom Jayne: A Film by Mariska Hargitay.
Hargitay, who is hosting the 2026 Primetime Emmys in a week, won Emmy awards for Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Special and Outstanding Directing for a Documentary/Nonfiction Program at the Creative Arts Ceremony for the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards at the Peacock Theater.
Hargitay, who also produced the documentary, is featured in My Mom Jayne alongside her siblings, who discuss the life and tragic death of their mother, Hollywood icon Jayne Mansfield.
The film, which held its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2025 and debuted on HBO Max a month later, marks the first time the Law & Order: Special Victims Unit star has spoken in-depth about the loss of her mother. Hargitay was 3 years old and in the vehicle when Mansfield was killed in a car accident on June 29, 1967, at the age of 34. Mansfield left behind five children.
Hargitay and fellow producer Trish Adlesic were honored by the Producers Guild of America in March for Outstanding Producer of Documentary Motion Pictures for My Mom Jayne.
Mariska Hargitay Mentioned Gloria Steinem in Her Acceptance Speech
Saturday night marked the first of two nights in which Emmys for the 2026 Creative Arts Ceremony will be presented. The next Creative Arts Emmy Awards will be handed out Sunday night.
During one of Mariska Hargitay’s acceptance speeches, she recalled the words of feminist icon and author Gloria Steinem, who died on Wednesday at her home in Los Angeles. Steinem was 92.
“My hero and friend Gloria Steinem recently said, ‘Please tell your own story.’ The most important thing that we can do for each other is to know each other through stories,” Hargitay said (via Gold Derby) at the ceremony, which is not televised live. “I got to know my mother through telling the story, and it is a gift that is indescribable.”
Hargitay added that “it was such an extraordinary gift to tell the story and to tell it with experts. I learned so much in the process, and I got to know my mother, as I said. And so, I just invite you all to tell your stories.”
Hargitay’s two wins Saturday night mark the first time she has won an Emmy since 2006, when she won her first honor from the Television Academy for Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series for Law & Order: SVU. Hargitay has been nominated in the same category for her role as Olivia Benson in Law & Order: SVU seven other times.
On Monday, Sept. 14, Hargitay will take the stage at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles once again to host the 78th Annual Primetime Emmys. The ceremony begins at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT and will be broadcast live on NBC and will stream on Peacock.
Both nights of the 2026 Creative Arts Emmys will be edited into a single broadcast and will air on FXX on Saturday, Sept. 12, at 8 p.m. ET/PT, and will begin streaming on Hulu on Sept. 13.
