Consultation on Discontinuation of Form BN Data Collection – Update
Following the publication of Green Notice 2026/01 and the associated consultation on the proposal to discontinue the collection and publication of Form BN data, we are issuing this follow up notice to provide an update on our assessment and outline next steps.
ONS consultation feedback and subsequent assessment:
Through the consultation process, we have better understood how the ONS relies on statistics derived from Form BN when producing the UK National Accounts. We have assessed the extent to which we could recreate these statistics using other sources such as Form CC /CL and have determined that this is not currently feasible due to certain practical challenges.
Next steps:
In light of the above, we will pause any further work on discontinuing Form BN at the current time.
Therefore, firms that currently report Form BN, or are in future advised that they meet the reporting threshold, should continue to submit Form BN in line with existing requirements until notified otherwise.
