What would you say if I told you I went out of my way to find a green toilet for the latest remodel at the Lavender Blue Cottage?
I wouldn’t blame you if you thought I was crazy. My family sure did!
Just between us though, I like the green toilet. It’s fun and unique. I think the color adds a bit of whimsy to our kids’ bathroom, which is exactly what I was going for.
Join me and we’ll take a look at that green toilet, as well as all the other features of this kids’ colorful small bathroom. It’s one of the most playful spaces I’ve ever designed, and I had a blast making over this room!

Small Bathroom Before
Here are some shots of our shared kid’s bathroom from the day we moved in. It had tile countertops, a wallpaper boarder and tub with privacy glass doors.
Definitely not the worst, but still in need of some upgrades to allow it to function better and feel like home.
Out top priority was to tackle the poor ventilation, a non-working window and those countertops and a shower surround that were nearly impossible to keep clean and mold free.

Bathroom Countertops
One of the first steps we took in this remodel was replacing the tile countertops with a cultured marble. We had it installed on the existing vanity, which was still in good shape.
It is so much easier to clean the counter without grout lines! Single-piece solid surfaces are the way to go.
The antique-inspired brass faucet was another upgrade that fit the cottage vibe of this fun bathroom.
Shower Surround
The old shower surround was also replaced with a simple cultured marble surround.
It’s simple, classy and a million times easier to use and keep clean compared to the old shower. This alone made a huge difference in the look and feel of the bathroom.
Colorful Bathroom Tile
After that, we moved on to installing concrete tile. I was having fun in this room and opted for a checkerboard pattern of purple tile and white tile.
Those are some bold colors for a bathroom, but I absolutely adore it! So playful and fun!

Bathroom Trim and Beadboard
Next, we installed a beadboard wall treatment with some chucky trim. It’s similar to the wall treatments we used in our sunshine bedroom and our living room.
Colorful Bathroom Paint Colors
We were all-in on the purple and white colors by the time we got to paint, so we continued the theme on the walls.
The white color is Dove White by Benjamin Moore.
The purple color is Brassica by Farrow and Ball. We had it color matched at Sherwin Williams.
Small spaces provide a great opportunity to experiment with fun accents or an unexpected color combination.
The Colorful Bathroom Toilet
My favorite part of this cottage bathroom might just be the afore mentioned green toilet. I think it’s gorgeous (as far as toilets go) and the pop of color is so unexpected.
What do you think about the toilet color? Too much or just enough? Either way, it’s certainly not boring!
DIY Cafe Curtains
We only needed a simple window covering in this room. Luckily for me, I had leftover material from making a cabinet curtain for the kitchen.
I loved the cottage look and decided to duplicate it in this bathroom as well.
I hung the curtains up cafe-style with a simple rod and curtain clips. Easy to put up and easy to take down and wash. Perfect.
Colorful Children’s Bathroom Decor Ideas
Lastly, let’s take a look at the bathroom decorations.
We decided to lean into the colorful scheme by bringing in not only purple, but shades of yellow, green and blue. Also, lots of different textures and finishes.
Even the bathroom lighting is colorful.
A chippy blue storage caddy that’s been with me forever ended up being perfect for this bathroom wall.
I love the “Caution” sign. Nothing says “kids’ bathroom” quite like that sign!
The blue storage caddy is now filled with used accessories, like loofas and soap bars, as well as non-useful items, like a figurine of a pig on a toilet.
It’s all about balance between practical and fun.
A few lavender shower steamers in a class container on the counter are both useful and cute. You could do the same thing with DIY bath bombs.
Finally, let’s step back and take it all in.
This cottage bathroom is colorful, unique and happy. Everything I wanted it to be. It’s one of those rooms that makes me stop and smile.
