Lighting design often focuses on crisp geometry and bright function, but Manhattan-based studio Blue Green Works takes a far more personal approach. Founded by Peter B. Staples, the brand creates light fixtures that explore deep human feelings. Its seventh lighting collection, titled Garden, blends delicate glass art with raw personal emotion.
The project began during a painful time for Staples, who received news of his mother’s passing while traveling to Italy. To cope with his grief, he turned to the ancient glassmaking traditions of Murano to create lamps about heartbreak and vulnerability.
Murano glass is famous around the world for its bold colors and heavy shapes. However, Staples wanted to use clear glass in a completely fresh, gentle way. He worked side by side with fourth-generation Italian glass masters for months, pushing them to craft thin, feathery forms that capture movement in solid glass.
The resulting chandeliers and floor lamps feature delicate glass leaves that point in all directions like branches in a wild garden. Instead of hiding how the pieces fit together, the design leaves edges and structural hardware visible, celebrating the raw honesty of the craft. The names are quite intriguing too. Garden Scone, Garden Terrace, Garden Paradise, Garden Landscape, Garden Pedestal, and Garden Fountain complete the whole garden collection.

Every light fixture in the Garden collection is built completely by hand on demand. Since the glass elements are shaped individually over hot fires, no two pieces are ever identical. This personal touch mirrors the emotional journey behind the collection, making each lamp feel like an intimate work of art rather than a standard home accessory.
Through this special collaboration, Blue Green Works shows how lighting can touch our hearts. By shaping clear Murano glass into fluid botanical forms, the collection transforms personal loss into glowing works of beauty that bring warmth and comfort to any room.
