Boldin AI: Your Retirement Planning Assistant

If you’ve ever wished you could ask a financial question and get an answer about your situation, that’s what Boldin AI does.

It’s a conversational assistant built into the Boldin Planner. You ask questions in plain language. The AI uses your real financial data: income, accounts, Social Security timing, spending assumptions. It runs those inputs through Boldin’s financial modeling engine, then explains what the results mean for your retirement and helps you act on those insights.

The feature has been available in beta since January 2026.

What Is Boldin AI? A Retirement Planning Assistant Built Around Your Data

Boldin AI is a conversational retirement planning assistant that operates within the Boldin Planner. It’s designed to answer retirement planning questions using the information already in your plan, rather than generic assumptions about someone in your age or income range. Because it works inside your actual plan data, the answers are tied to your inputs and Boldin’s planning model, not just general financial content.

It connects to your actual financial data — income, accounts, tax situation, Social Security timing, spending assumptions — and runs your questions through a structured financial modeling engine before responding.

Ask Boldin AI whether you can retire earlier. The AI doesn’t pull up a generic answer about the 4% rule. It looks at your numbers: your savings, your projected Social Security income, your spending. Then it shows you what earlier retirement might mean for your specific plan.

That grounding in your actual data is what separates this from searching the web or using a general-purpose AI chatbot.

How Boldin AI Protects Your Personal Financial Data

Everything you type to Boldin AI, and every document you upload, is encrypted in transit and at rest. Documents in Document Vault use AES-256 encryption. Boldin holds SOC 2 Type II certification, and is also TrustArc certified and compliant with GDPR and CCPA.

Your conversations and uploaded documents stay private by default. Only you can see them unless you choose to share access with a spouse, a trusted contact, or a Boldin Advisor. Boldin doesn’t share your documents with outside companies or sell your data.

Your conversations aren’t used to train public AI models. Boldin stores conversation transcripts to run the feature, provide support, and maintain security. The system keeps them for up to 90 days before deleting them, unless you opt in to help improve Boldin’s models or a longer retention period is legally required. You can request a copy of anything you’ve uploaded to Document Vault, or ask Boldin to delete your conversation transcripts or Vault documents, at any time.

Tell Boldin AI to Build or Update Your Retirement Plan

Boldin AI does more than answer questions. Bring your own ideas, or act on something that surfaced in the conversation. On PlannerPlus, you can describe the change in plain language, or upload a document, and Boldin AI proposes the exact fields it can update. Nothing changes in your plan until you review it and confirm.

  • A new retirement date. Tell Boldin AI you want to retire two years earlier than planned. It shows the current and proposed date side by side, and applies the change once you confirm it.
  • A new income source. Tell Boldin AI you’re adding freelance income of $1,500 a month. It applies the update to your income section once you approve it.
  • A spending change. Tell Boldin AI your grocery budget went up by $200 a month. It applies the adjustment to that expense category once you confirm it, and your projections refresh with the new number.

Upload a statement (PDF) to Document Vault, and Boldin AI reads the figures and proposes the same kind of update, waiting for your confirmation before anything saves.

How Boldin AI Uses a Financial Modeling Engine, Not Guesswork

Boldin AI doesn’t generate financial projections on its own. When you ask a question, your request goes to Boldin’s financial planning engine first. The engine runs the calculation. The AI reads those results and translates them into plain-language explanations.

That separation matters. The model calculates; the AI explains. When numbers in a response trace back to a structured planning model rather than a language model’s pattern-matching, they’re more reliable. This reduces a problem common in AI-generated financial content: hallucinated math.

Boldin also uses validation checks and ongoing review to improve the quality of what the assistant says before it reaches users. That means the system is designed not only to ground projections in structured calculations, but also to keep improving how those results are explained.

Boldin AI differs from ChatGPT and similar tools in three specific ways: it works inside your actual financial plan, its calculations come from a dedicated financial modeling engine, and it has no financial products to sell.

Boldin AI works inside your complete financial plan

Responses are grounded in your real data (your accounts, your Social Security timing, your actual spending projections), not generic assumptions about someone your age with a similar income.

Financial calculations come from Boldin’s planning engine

The AI interprets. The model calculates. That division is intentional, and it’s how Boldin reduces the risk of AI-generated numbers that don’t add up.

Boldin doesn’t sell financial products

Boldin runs on a subscription model. You’re paying for a planning tool, not access to a financial product pipeline. There are no commissions, proprietary investments, or quota. That independence shapes what the AI focuses on: helping you understand your plan.

If you’ve tried using ChatGPT for retirement planning, you’ve likely noticed the limit. It can explain concepts clearly, but it can’t see your accounts, your Social Security estimate, or your actual tax situation. Boldin AI can, because it’s working inside your plan.

Is Boldin AI Free? Access and Question Limits by Plan

Boldin AI is available to all users at no additional cost. You don’t need beta access or a PlannerPlus subscription to start.

Access by subscription level:

  • Basic users: Up to 5 questions per day. You’ll see an upgrade option when you reach the limit.
  • PlannerPlus users: Up to 200 questions per conversation, with unlimited conversations. Update your plan using Boldin AI via chat or document upload.

Your conversations are saved automatically. To return to a previous one, click the expand icon in the top corner of the chat panel to open your conversation history. Note: conversation history isn’t accessible on mobile at this time.

What Questions Can You Ask Boldin AI?

You can ask Boldin AI questions across every major retirement planning topic: retirement timing, Roth conversions, tax strategy, Social Security claiming, healthcare costs in retirement, and investment risk.

Here are some of the questions users ask most often:

  • When can I securely retire?
  • Would I benefit from Roth conversions?
  • Am I prepared for a market downturn?
  • Is my plan complete and up to date?
  • What will healthcare cost me in retirement?
  • How does Social Security timing affect my projected income?
  • What risks am I exposed to when I retire?
  • Can I afford to retire early and still cover college tuition?
  • Should I be making Roth or traditional contributions?
  • What scenarios should I run next?

You can ask follow-up questions within the same conversation. The AI builds on prior context, so you can explore tradeoffs without starting over.

How to Start Using Boldin AI

Boldin AI is accessible from the Ask button in the top-right corner of your Boldin Plan. Type your question in plain language and the assistant responds based on your current plan data.

After each response, you’ll see thumbs-up and thumbs-down buttons. Use them. That feedback helps Boldin identify what’s working and where responses need improvement.

If you close the browser or refresh the page, your conversation is saved. Open past conversations by clicking the expand icon in the chat panel.

What Boldin AI Does Not Do

Boldin AI does not provide personalized financial, tax, or legal advice. It’s built for financial education, scenario modeling, and planning exploration.

A few things to keep in mind before you use it:

  • Projections are based on your plan data. Accuracy depends on how complete and current that data is.
  • Boldin AI can misunderstand questions or context. Review important outputs in the Planner before acting on them.
  • Results are hypothetical. They’re not guaranteed outcomes.
  • Boldin AI isn’t a substitute for a qualified financial professional, especially on complex or high-stakes decisions.
  • It never changes your plan without your approval. Every proposed update, whether from a chat prompt or an uploaded document, requires your review and confirmation.

Boldin AI helps you explore scenarios and understand tradeoffs. It doesn’t provide definitive financial advice or professional judgment. Human support remains central to Boldin:

  • Live and recorded planning classes
  • Community forums on Facebook and Reddit for peer discussion
  • Coaching to review whether your plan is set up correctly
  • CFP® professionals through Boldin Advisors for advice on complex decisions

That’s human judgment working alongside what the Planner models.

A Note From Steve Chen on What Won’t Change at Boldin

We launched Boldin AI in January 2026, and we’ve been improving it continuously since. Responses are getting more relevant, clearer, and more accurate. We’re only at the beginning of what’s possible.

What won’t change is our alignment with you. Boldin doesn’t sell financial products. We don’t earn commissions. We’re not steering you toward proprietary investments. Our platform is built to serve one interest: yours.

That matters because it means everything the AI surfaces — scenarios, tradeoffs, projections — is grounded in your data and your goals. Not in a quota. Not in a product lineup.

The technology will keep evolving. Our commitment to you won’t.

Frequently Asked Questions About Boldin AI

What is Boldin AI?

Boldin AI is a conversational assistant inside the Boldin Planner that answers retirement planning questions using the financial information in your plan. It draws on your income, account balances, tax situation, Social Security timing, and spending assumptions to run scenario calculations through Boldin’s financial modeling engine, then translates those results into plain language explanations tailored to your situation. Instead of giving generic rules of thumb, Boldin AI focuses on what your current data says about your retirement outlook, tradeoffs, and options, so you are exploring your own plan rather than a hypothetical example.

How does Boldin AI work?

Boldin AI works by connecting your natural-language questions to Boldin’s existing planning engine, not by inventing projections on its own. When you type a question, the system first runs the relevant calculations using the assumptions and data stored in your plan; the AI layer then reads those outputs, interprets them, and presents the implications in everyday language. This design separates math from explanation: the planning model handles the numerical projections, while the AI focuses on clarity, context, and follow-up, which reduces the risk of made‑up numbers and keeps responses tied to structured financial logic.

What makes Boldin AI different from ChatGPT or other AI tools?

Boldin AI is purpose-built for retirement planning and operates on your full Boldin plan, which makes it structurally different from general-purpose tools like ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini. It can see the same information you use for planning (your accounts, Social Security estimates, tax projections, spending assumptions) and runs those through a dedicated financial engine before responding, rather than relying on public information or generic profiles. Because Boldin’s business model is subscription-based and not tied to selling investment products or earning commissions, the assistant’s role is to help you understand scenarios and tradeoffs in your plan rather than to steer you toward specific products or providers.

What questions can I ask Boldin AI?

Boldin AI is designed to handle a wide range of retirement planning questions, from “big picture” topics like when you might retire to detailed questions about taxes, income sequencing, risk, Social Security timing, and healthcare costs. You can also explore more specialized scenarios, such as testing Roth conversions, checking how a market downturn would affect your plan, or seeing whether your plan is up to date with your latest assumptions and balances. Across all of these topics, the assistant connects general financial concepts back to your own numbers so you can see what various choices might mean for your specific retirement path, while still stopping short of giving personalized financial, tax, or legal advice.

How much does Boldin AI cost? Who can access it?

Boldin AI is included with Boldin at no extra charge, so there is no separate fee to use the assistant on top of your existing subscription level. Basic users have access to a limited number of questions per day, while PlannerPlus subscribers can ask significantly more questions within each conversation and start as many new conversations as they like. When you reach the daily question limit on a Basic plan, the interface will prompt you with options to upgrade, and you can compare the full set of features at each subscription tier on Boldin’s pricing page.

Can Boldin AI update my retirement plan for me?

PlannerPlus users can describe a change you want to make to your retirement plan in plain language, such as a new income source or a spending adjustment, and Boldin AI proposes the specific fields to update. The change applies to your plan only after you review it and confirm.

What if I receive an incorrect response?

If a response seems off, incomplete, or confusing, you can use the thumbs‑down control attached to that answer to flag the issue directly within the interface. That feedback feeds into Boldin’s quality‑improvement process, where patterns in user reports are used to refine prompts, models, and explanations over time.

Is my financial data safe with Boldin AI?

Boldin applies SOC 2 Type II–aligned security controls across its platform, which means independent auditors review the company’s processes for protecting customer data on an ongoing basis. Data traveling between your device and Boldin is encrypted in transit, stored in encrypted form at rest, and protected by access controls, monitoring, and other safeguards described in more detail on Boldin’s security page.

Conversations with Boldin AI are stored within the Boldin environment so you can revisit them later, but access is restricted to authorized personnel under confidentiality obligations; personal data is not sold, and interactions are not used to train public AI models, while any third‑party AI providers are bound by contractual limits on how they can process your information.

How long will Boldin AI be in beta?

The “beta” label on Boldin AI indicates that the feature is fully available but still undergoing active refinement, with no fixed date for when that designation will be removed. Boldin uses this term deliberately in a financial planning context to signal that transparency about limitations, accuracy work, and ongoing iteration are part of the product’s expected lifecycle rather than a temporary phase. As the system improves through better models, expanded coverage of planning scenarios, and deeper integration with the Planner, the functionality may evolve significantly, but Boldin expects to keep emphasizing clear disclosures and responsible deployment practices.

What is Boldin doing to ensure accuracy in AI responses?

Boldin treats response quality as an end‑to‑end system challenge rather than a single‑model tuning exercise, which is why several layers are involved in accuracy control. First, all core financial projections are generated by Boldin’s structured planning engine, so the AI layer is interpreting outputs rather than inventing numbers; second, multiple AI models and validation checks are used to screen answers before they appear in the interface.

In addition, human experts, including CFP® professionals, coaches, and content reviewers, regularly audit explanations and user feedback, and the platform is updated to track changes in tax law, planning assumptions, and new product features, all with the goal of making responses more reliable, useful, and transparent over time.

Can I opt out of using Boldin AI?

Using Boldin AI is completely optional, and your core Boldin planning experience remains fully functional without it. The same projections, scenarios, and modeling capabilities are available through the Planner’s standard tools, so you can choose to rely solely on those interfaces if you prefer a non‑AI workflow. If you decide not to engage with the assistant, you can simply close it and continue building, updating, and reviewing your retirement plan using the other Boldin Planner features.
