Stellantis Recalls 900,000 Vehicles over Camera Bug

Stellantis is recalling more than 900,000 Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram vehicles over radio software that can prevent the backup camera from displaying properly.

The automaker said Monday, Aug. 17, it would file the recall with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Stellantis said there have been no known injuries related to the software malfunction.

In a statement to the Detroit Free Press, spokesperson Frank Matyok said drivers of affected vehicles should use side- and rearview mirrors when reversing until an over-the-air update is available to download.

In total, 848,511 vehicles are recalled in the United States, with about 100,000 more under recall outside the country.

How Owners Will Get the Fix

The recall does not require drivers to bring their vehicles to a dealership for a remedy. Instead, a prompt will appear on the media screen when the fix is ready to download. If owners have trouble installing it, they can visit a dealership for a free software update.

Owners with questions can call Stellantis customer care at 1-800-853-1403 or visit recalls.mopar.com. They can also check whether their vehicle is included by entering its vehicle identification number on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s website.

Additional vehicles will be subject to recall in Canada (estimated 82,869), Mexico (estimated 7,969) and certain markets outside North America (estimated 15,736).
