2026 BMW Championship Preview, Full Field And Odds

The second leg of the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup Playoffs starts Thursday with the BMW Championship. A week after the St. Jude Championship kicked off golf’s postseason, the field now turns to 50 players with one more tournament on the schedule next week.

Everything continues with the BMW Championship, and you’ll see the best players in the game in the field this week. It might not have the feel of a major tournament, but it will certainly be worth watching.

Let’s take a look at the details of the upcoming BMW Championship:

  • Dates: Aug 20-23, 2026
  • Location: St. Louis, Missouri
  • Course: Bellerive Country Club
  • Course Details: Par 70, 7,448 yards
  • Field: BMW Championship Field
  • Total Purse: $20 million

It’s still important to take a look at the past winners of this event:

BMW Championship Past Winners

  • 2025 – Scottie Scheffler
  • 2024 – Keegan Brandley
  • 2023 – Viktor Hovland
  • 2022 – Patrick Cantlay
  • 2021 – Patrick Cantlay

Let’s take a look at pre-tournament winner odds:

2026 BMS Championship Odds

  • Scottie Scheffler (+310)
  • Rory McIlroy (+1275)
  • Xander Schauffele (+1650)
  • Ludvig Aberg (+1700)
  • Sam Burns (+1750)

When it comes to picks for this event, I’d start with my favorite and long shot picks. The favorite pick is the winner pick I like the most. For the long shot winner, that is a golfer who has over +2000 odds to win. It is a long shot pick for a reason, and finding those can be like finding a needle in a haystack.

Here are my favorite and long shot picks for the 2026 BMW Championship:

Favorite: Cameron Young (+1750)

Long Shot: Wyndham Clark (+3300)

There are a lot of golf fans who believe Scottie Scheffler could run the table throughout the FedEx Cup Playoffs, and I might be one of them, but with him only getting +310 odds I decided to go with a player who I think has the chance for a big bounce back, and with much better odds.

That’s why I’m taking Cam Young at +1750. Young hasn’t been playing the best the past few weeks, but he still has had one of the best seasons outside of Scheffler. I like Young to bounce back.

Speaking of hot golfers, Wyndham Clark getting +3300 after a T5 finish last week at the St. Jude and multiple tour wins this year, it feels almost disrespectful. I think Clark as a long shot play would be a great opportunity to maximize return in a limited field event.

Top 5 Bets For The BMW Championship 2026

  • Matt Fitzpatrick (+345)
  • Scottie Scheffler (-162)

I don’t like the odds for Scheffler, but I also don’t think there is a strong chance he finishes outside the Top 5. You don’t want to put your mortgage on the line, but Scheffler being in the Top 5 certainly seems more than reasonable.

Fitzpatrick, like Clark and Young, has had a great season to date, and I don’t think he’s completely lost his swing or confidence. I think Fitzpatrick will rebound this weekend in the no-cut event.

Top 10 Picks For The BMW Championship 2026

  • Tommy Fleetwood (+128)
  • Hideki Matsuyama (+168)

Tommy Fleetwood typically thrives in these no-cut events, and I expect him to perform well. Last season it was the Tour Championship when Fleetwood broke through for his first tour win, and I think a Top 10 finish isn’t out of the question.

Hideki Matsuyama has been one of the hottest golfers on tour down the stretch, and has helped us cash several plays the last few tournaments. I’m taking Matsuyama to help us out once again with a Top 10 play at +168.

Top 20 Value Picks For The BMW Championship 2026

  • Justin Rose (+120)
  • Ryan Fox (+186)

Justin Rose is a player who has won in the FedEx Cup Playoffs in past seasons, winning the St. Jude Championship in 2025, and I think a Top 20 finish with +120 odds in a field of 50 is a good bet.

Speaking of good odds, Ryan Fox, the Open Championship winner, getting +186 to just be in the Top 20 feels like an easy play. Nonetheless, we’ll have to see if Fox can regain his form to cash in this particular pick.

Best Prop Bets, Parlays And Bonus Plays For The 2026 BMW Championship

For bonus plays, these are picks which I don’t necessarily hang my hat on, but still provide value for some who want more exotic plays outside of the aforementioned picks. Sometimes bonus plays are parlays, double chances, triple chances, and even some fun plays for that particular event.

Here are the bonus plays for the 2026 BMW Championship:

Double Chance: Scottie Scheffler or Cameron Young (+250)

Triple Chance: Scottie Scheffler / Xander Schauffele / Matt Fitzpatrick (+198)

Margin of Victory: 2 Shots (+355)
