Hunker Pod Turns Empty Van Into Fully Functional Camper in an Hour
Modular camper kits have become popular alternatives to full-size RVs and permanent van builds, as we have already seen with several camper kits for the latest Kia PV5 van. There are even more flexible builds like the PlugVan that treat the entire camper module as a single unit. The Hunker Pod is also trying to achieve the same, but this time, it is for the USA market. It is built and developed in collaboration with the German company Innovation4Van, which is well known for modular camper systems.
Unlike a traditional campervan, the Hunker Pod is not permanently attached to the vehicle. It slides in on retractable legs that lower it to floor level, then bolts directly into your van’s factory preexisting inserts, no drilling, no permanent mods, transforming an empty van into a fully functional camper in an hour, without permanent modifications. Just slide in the camper module when going on a camping trip, and remove it as a whole unit when wanting to use the van for other purposes.
The 1,000-lbs (454-kg) removable camper system was designed exclusively for the Ram ProMaster 159-inch wheelbase, model years 2014 and newer. Hunker estimates the installation process takes about an hour, while the removal process also takes the same amount of time. These processes are meant to be done only by Hunker and its authorized installation partners, which means the buyer can not shift the camper module on their own.
The Hunker Pod is designed to use the van’s entire interior space, rather than leaving unused space behind the driver and passenger seats. The first thing to notice inside is the flexible layout, where you can easily shift between lounge and sleeping setup, just like other camper vans in the market. The bench seating in the dining area converts into a comfortable queen-size bed in seconds.
There is a modern kitchen with a removable dual-burner grill, Dometic fridge, and an electric faucet with dual removable 7-gallon freshwater and greywater tanks. The kitchen area also includes storage drawers and overhead cabinets, along with a tiled backsplash for a homely appearance.

Unfortunately, there is no built-in bathroom in the layout, which is crucial for many potential buyers. However, Hunker offers an optional portable toilet for use inside a separate pop-up tent. The slide-in camper system also includes a complete electrical system with a 312Ah lithium battery, a 1,200W inverter, 200W solar charging setup, DC-DC charger, shore power hookup, USB charging ports, and dimmable LED lighting.
The Hunker Pod is now available for a base price of $32,995, with delivery expected in spring 2027. If you wish to buy, bring your own van for conversion or purchase a full van conversion by Hunker. The company says a used van with Hunker Pod will start around $55,000, while a brand-new van with Pod would cost about $78,000.
